Parent Reunification

Ensuring the safety of every student is our top priority. In the rare event of a school emergency that requires evacuation or relocation, our district follows a structured process to reunite students with their parents or guardians. We use the Standard Reunification Method (SRM) developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation, in coordination with the Raptor Reunification system by Raptor Technologies, to ensure a safe, accountable, and efficient reunification process.

Parent reunification is the process of safely reuniting students with their approved guardians following a school emergency, such as a natural disaster, safety threat, or other incident requiring evacuation. While these situations are rare, being prepared is critical to ensuring student safety.

Our Approach

Our district uses the Standard Reunification Method (SRM), a proven, national best practice created by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation. This method:

  • Provides a clear, practiced plan for reunifying families after an emergency

  • Reduces chaos and confusion

  • Ensures student safety and accurate accountability

To support this method, we use the Raptor Reunification system, a secure digital tool that speeds up the reunification process while maintaining accurate records and verifying the identity of guardians.

How It Works

In the event of a reunification:

Notification
Parents and guardians will be notified via the district’s communication channels (email, phone, and/or text) with detailed instructions, including the reunification location and procedures to follow.

Arrival at Reunification Site
Parents or approved guardians must bring a valid, government-issued photo ID to the designated reunification site. This ensures that only authorized individuals are able to pick up students.

Check-In Using Raptor Reunification
Upon arrival, staff will use the Raptor Reunification system to:

Verify your identity and match you with your student(s)

Confirm authorized contacts listed in the student’s emergency records

Track the status of each reunification to ensure accountability and efficiency

Student Release
Once verified, your student will be escorted to the reunification area and released into your care. All reunifications are logged in real time within the Raptor system.

Keep your contact information up to date with your child’s school, including a current list of approved guardians.
