At Seguin ISD, the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority. We are committed to maintaining a secure learning environment through comprehensive emergency preparedness planning and training. In accordance with guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas School Safety Center, we implement regular emergency drills and maintain up-to-date safety procedures across all campuses.
Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
Seguin ISD maintains a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that serves as the foundation for all emergency preparedness and response activities. The plan:
Aligns with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) to ensure coordination with local, state, and federal emergency response agencies.
Is reviewed and approved annually by the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees.
Is developed in accordance with
Texas Education Code §37.108 and guidance from the
Texas School Safety Center.
Includes protocols for all-hazard response, covering natural disasters, active threats, medical emergencies, and more.
Addresses roles and responsibilities for district personnel, communication procedures, reunification plans, and coordination with first responders.
The EOP is regularly updated based on district safety audits, feedback from drills and exercises, and changes to state or federal guidance. All district and campus staff are trained annually on their responsibilities under the plan.
Types of Emergency Drills
To reinforce preparedness, all campuses conduct a variety of safety drills throughout the school year. These include:
Fire Drills – Regular evacuations to practice safe and quick building exit procedures.
A.L.I.C.E Training Drills – Practice for securing classrooms during a threat.
Severe Weather Drills – Tornado or shelter-in-place procedures for natural hazards.
Evacuation Drills – Planned movement to alternate locations in the event of gas leaks, structural concerns, or other emergencies.
Shelter-in-Place Drills – Procedures for air quality issues or chemical spills.
Secure Drills - practice for when there is a threat or hazard outside of the school building
Drills are age-appropriate and conducted with care to ensure students feel safe while learning what to do in an emergency.
Compliance with Texas School Safety Requirements
Seguin ISD follows the safety mandates set by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC). This includes:
A district-wide Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) as required by TEC §37.108
Annual staff training on emergency response and the SRP
Coordination with local law enforcement and emergency response teams
Ongoing safety audits and plan updates
Emergency Communication
In the event of an actual emergency, the district will notify families using our mass communication system (email, text, phone), as well as updates on our website and official social media accounts.
Partnering for Safety
Safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage parents, students, staff, and community members to stay informed, report concerns, and participate in safety efforts.
