Our district is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. As part of this commitment, we implement the ALICE program, a nationally recognized approach to school safety and active threat response.
ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. It is a proactive, options-based training program designed to prepare students and staff to respond effectively in the unlikely event of a school intruder or violent incident.
Through age-appropriate lessons and drills, participants learn how to:
• Alert others to danger quickly and clearly
• Lockdown to secure their location when safe to do so
• Inform by sharing real-time information with first responders and others
• Counter as a last resort to create a distraction and reduce the attacker’s ability to cause harm
• Evacuate safely when possible to remove themselves from danger
The ALICE program empowers individuals to make informed decisions based on the situation they are in. It aligns with local law enforcement and emergency response plans and helps foster a culture of preparedness and confidence throughout our school community.
We believe that knowledge is power—and through ALICE, we are equipping our students and staff with the tools to stay safe.
