About Proposition A

Prop A provides $2.4 million of new funding to the current fiscal year and at least as much each year thereafter, to support the district’s Maintenance & Operations (M&O) instructional budget to:

Recruit and retain high-quality teachers & staff
Safety and security
Maintain student programs
Fund the district’s operations

Did You Know?

The district has already made cuts where it can, but 79% of the budget is earmarked for teacher and support staff salaries, and additional cuts will affect student programs.

This could lead to the adoption of large deficit budgets in the future. The rate increase could help keep student programs intact.

Today, Seguin ISD receives approximately $600 less per student than neighboring districts. This proposal will help ensure that Seguin ISD students are funded at the same level as surrounding districts.

What is a VATRE?

A VATRE (Voter-Approved Tax Ratification Election) is a Texas local election in which school districts ask voters to approve a higher Maintenance & Operations (M&O) tax rate to generate additional revenue.

It funds daily operations, such as teacher salaries, security, and academic and extracurricular programs. It does not create new debt, unlike school bonds, and cannot be used to build new structures.
