Seguin ISD Receives "Best Communities for Music Education" Award for 8th Year
04/27/2026

SEGUIN, Texas (April 27, 2026)—Seguin ISD is proud to announce its 8th consecutive year of recognition as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. The district is among those recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).

“Music education plays a powerful role in building relationships, inspiring success, and empowering all students,” said Dr. Jack Lee, Seguin ISD superintendent. “In Seguin ISD, we believe every student deserves opportunities to grow through connection, inspiration, and creativity. Through music and the arts, our students not only develop their talents but also learn to collaborate, express who they are, and contribute to something greater than themselves. This recognition reflects the dedication of our educators, the support of our families, and the commitment of our community to shaping brighter futures together.”

Districts that receive the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) award demonstrate a strong commitment to providing students with music education. According to NAMM, the application process includes verified data on funding, instruction time, participation, and community engagement.

“With over 100 years of music ensembles across Band, Choir, Mariachi, and Elementary Music, Seguin has always supported the arts,” said Dr. Samuel Parrott, Fine Arts Coordinator for Seguin ISD. “One of my favorite aspects of this community is the multi-generational participation in our groups. Parents and grandparents always speak about their time with Seguin ISD music ensembles and celebrate their children and grandchildren as they begin their musical journey.”

Seguin ISD elementary students have several opportunities for music enrichment, including regular classes, school choirs, and public performances. The district’s two middle schools and high school offer band, choir, guitar, mariachi, and musical theatre to students at the secondary level. These students also have the opportunity to compete in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) music program.

“Our teachers and students are the ones who do the fantastic work every day,” Dr. Parrott said. “Our community, School Board, and administration always show up to advocate for our programs and highlight the outstanding performances across all art forms.”

2026 marks the 27th year of the Best Communities in Music Education award. Seguin ISD has received the honor annually since 2018.
