Seguin Independent School District is proud to announce that its theatre program has earned the Texas Thespians Premiere Communities for Theatre Education Award. School districts honored with this recognition provide theatre programs with the resources to achieve above standard, as rooted in the Educational Theatre Association’s Opportunity to Learn Standards, Texas Theatre Knowledge and Skills for Fine Arts (TEKS), and support of International Thespian Society Troupe involvement.
To qualify, Seguin ISD met rigorous guidelines for curriculum, scheduling, class sizes, facilities, theatre safety, technical equipment, production elements, overall support for the theatre program, and Thespian troupe involvement. Responses were verified and reviewed by Texas Theatre Education specialists.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff who have built a strong and meaningful theatre program,” said Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Jack Lee. “Fine arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education, and we are extremely proud of a program that helps students grow while connecting our schools and community.”
Research on theatre education has shown numerous educational benefits for students of all ages. Students learn teamwork, how to give and receive constructive criticism, problem-solving, trust, cooperation, and collaboration. Theatre also helps students develop a strong sense of self, empathy, and understanding; all skills that will serve them well beyond graduation.
