Seguin ISD Board of Trustees Names Interim Superintendent
05/29/2025

The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees has selected the district’s chief financial officer, Elizabeth Banks (formerly Oaks), as its interim superintendent. She was formally named in a unanimous vote by trustees at a special meeting on Wednesday, May 28.

Banks takes over the role immediately from Dr. Veronica Vijil, who will retire and serve as Superintendent Emeritus through the end of 2025. As interim superintendent, Banks will ensure the district continues to run smoothly until a new superintendent is chosen.

Liz has a great working relationship with our leadership staff, and I know that they will all pull together to get us through this important season with hiring, crafting the budget, and overseeing the construction and facilities projects happening across the district,” Denise Crettenden, board president, said. “We have an excellent team in place at the campuses and in Central Office, and I trust that under her leadership, they’ll have the support and guidance to do what they do best.”

Banks joined the district as chief financial officer in April 2024. She has over a decade of experience in finance and operations, having served as Chief Financial Officer for La Vernia ISD and Lamesa ISD, and as Business Manager for Miami (TX) ISD. She also spent two years in the classroom before moving into finance. Banks is a registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA), is a member of the Texas Association of School Officials (TASBO) and the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), and has a Master’s degree in business administration from West Texas A&M University.

“I am honored to be asked to take on this important role during an important time for our district,” Banks said. “I look forward to working with our staff and trustees to make sure it is business as usual until a new superintendent is chosen.”

The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees is working with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services in its search for a permanent superintendent. Under the board’s current timeline, trustees will start interviewing candidates at the end of May and into June. The board intends to name a lone finalist on June 17, with a final vote to hire at its July 10 special meeting.
