Superintendent Message on the Release of 2023 Accountability Ratings
04/24/2025

Dear Seguin ISD families,

I wanted to acknowledge the recent court decision to release the 2023 Texas Education Agency (TEA) ratings for Texas schools and offer clarity on what this means for Seguin ISD.

This decision comes nearly two years after Seguin ISD and 120 other Texas School districts filed for an injunction based on abrupt changes to the TEA Accountability System.

While the ratings are new, the data on which they are based has been available since fall 2023.

That data can be viewed here: https://www.seguin.k12.tx.us/upload/page/0316/SISD%20TAPR%20Compiled.pdf

Over the past two years, our staff and teachers have used this data to ensure our students and schools are getting the necessary support and resources to drive growth and student success.

Please note that TEA will release 2025 ratings in the fall.

We anticipate growth based on the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff.

Our team knows there is work to do, but we are proud of our students’ continued progress.

Given the increased awareness of the current accountability system, legislators have already filed bills in the current legislative session to reform the system.

TEA is also making adjustments to its procedures.

TEA will release the 2023 accountability ratings on April 24. Parents and families can view these ratings at txschools.gov.

Thank you again for your continued support of Seguin ISD students, teachers, and staff.

Dr. Veronica Vijil
Superintendent, Seguin ISD
