Seguin ISD Destination Imagination at Global Finals

Three Seguin ISD Destination Imagination (DI) teams participated in the global final event in Kansas City, Mo. on May 22-24.

 

Wonders of the World Seguin ISD DI Team

 

In the Middle School division, the Wonders of the World, or W.O.W. team of Kassidy Dailey of Koennecke Elementary, Evan Flores and Ava Martinez of Barnes Middle School, and Bryce Lanford, Paige Leyendecker, Piper Perry and Ali Schievelbein of Weinert Elementary competed against 42 teams to earn third place in the Fine Arts Challenge.

 

The Broadway Breakouts Seguin ISD DI Team

 

The team of Molly Burns, Eleanor Crettenden and Melanie Poe of Barnes Middle School, plus Clara Spencer Dibble of Briesemeister Middle School, competed against 28 teams and finished fourteenth in the Improvisational Challenge in the Middle School division. Their team name was the Broadway Breakouts.

 

Seguin Rocks Seguin ISD DI Team

 

Seguin High School seniors Melissa Chapa, Emily De La Rosa, Leo de Leon, Adrian Martinez and Kayla Zambrano represented the only team to compete at the University Level in the Service Learning Challenge. The team, called Seguin Rocks, received the Torch Bearer award for raising $3,747.00 for the Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter.

 

“I am proud of these students for keeping the Seguin ISD tradition of excellence in Destination Imagination. They have practiced, competed and advanced in regional and state competition leading up to the annual global finals event. Also, the team managers are to be commended for dedicating their time and effort in support of our DI students,” said Dr. Matthew Gutierrez, Seguin ISD superintendent.

 

Leo de Leon was awarded the Texas DI scholarship and former Matador Serenity de Leon received the Founders Award for volunteerism.
