Under the 2019 state accountability ratings released by the
Texas Education Agency on Aug. 15, Seguin ISD received a C rating based upon performance
standards.
Additionally, three campuses earned Distinction Designations in recognition of outstanding
achievement in specifically measured areas.
“This is the first year that the state is rating campuses based upon a letter grade. I am proud of
McQueeney and Koennecke elementaries. Both campuses earned a B and each received a
Distinction Designation. Seguin High School saw a notable increase, improving from a 2018
score of 70 to a 77 in 2019. Overall, Weinert Elementary improved from a 72 to a 78.
“These achievements are to be commended as our teachers and students embark upon the 2019-
2020 school year. However, it is imperative that several campuses improve this year,” said
Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez.
Under the state accountability system, distinctions are awarded for academic achievement in
Math, Science, Reading/English Language Arts, Social Studies, Academic Growth, Closing the
Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.
McQueeney Elementary earned a distinction Postsecondary Readiness. Koennecke’s distinction
came in Math, and Seguin High School received a distinction in Reading/ELA.
In addition to Seguin High School, campuses receiving a C were Mercer-Blumberg Learning
Center plus Jefferson and Weinert elementaries. Rodriguez, Patlan and Vogel received a D while
F ratings went to Barnes and Briesemeister middle schools.
“This summer we overhauled the campus leadership at both middle schools. I’m confident that
the new and talented administrators at Barnes and Briesemeister will improve our outcomes for
2019-2020. We are focusing on areas of concern at the elementary level as well,” he said.
