Under the 2018 state accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency on Aug. 14, Seguin ISD schools received the Met Standard rating based upon performance standards.
District schools were awarded several Distinction Designations in recognition of outstanding achievement in specifically measured areas.
“In addition to all schools and the district achieving the Met Standard rating, 12 Distinction Designations were earned by Seguin ISD schools. This is good news for the Seguin community as we welcome our teachers and students back to the start the 2018-2019 school year,” said Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez.
Distinction Designations are awarded to campuses based on achievement on performance indicators compared to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographics. The four performance indicators are Academic Achievement (English/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies), Academic Growth, Closing the Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.
Under the state accountability system, McQueeney Elementary earned five distinctions out of a possible total of six per elementary campus. These distinctions were awarded for Academic Achievement in Math, Science and English Language Arts, plus Closing the Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.
Koennecke Elementary received four distinctions, including one for Academic Achievement in Math, Academic Growth, Closing the Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.
Students at Jefferson, Patlan and Vogel elementary schools also performed well, having received distinctions in Science, Closing the Gaps and Academic Growth, respectively.
“Our students, teachers, campus administrators and families are to be commended for continuously striving to improve academics in our schools. I am proud of their efforts and know that academic improvement will continue to be a point of focus across the district,” he said.
