Eight distinctions designations were earned by Seguin ISD schools during the 2015-16 school year according to data from the Texas Education Agency.
During the 2014-15 school year, Seguin ISD schools received two distinctions under the state accountability system.
Distinction designations are awarded to campuses based on achievement on performance indicators compared to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographics. The four performance indicators are Student Achievement (Index 1), Student Progress (Index 2), Closing Performance Gaps (Index 3) and Postsecondary Readiness (Index 4).
“This increase, from two to eight distinction designations, exemplifies the focus that our students, teachers and campus administrators had on academics last school year. I’m proud of their successes in the classroom,” said Stetson Roane, Seguin ISD superintendent.
Under the state accountability system, data shows that Barnes Middle School received an Academic Achievement distinction in student Social Studies scores.
At the elementary level, Weinert Elementary earned a total of four distinctions. Areas awarded include Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading, Academic Achievement in Mathematics, Top 25% Student Progress and Postsecondary Readiness.
At Rodriguez Elementary School, student performance garnered a Top 25% Student Progress distinction and a Post Secondary Readiness Distinction.
A Top 25% Student Progress distinction will go to McQueeney Elementary School.
The academic distinctions come on the heels of Seguin ISD receiving word in August that district- and campus-wide, minimum index targets were met or exceeded in 45 of 47 indexes. As a result, all campuses received the Met Standard designation with the exception of Patlan Elementary. The district has formally appealed Patlan’s rating with TEA and believes that after scores are re-evaluated, the school’s rating will be changed to Met Standard.
