Travis Bush named Seguin ISD Athletic Director/Head Football Coach
02/24/2016
During the Feb. 23 regular meeting of the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Stetson Roane announced that Coach Travis Bush has accepted the athletic director/head football coach position for the district.

An interview committee selected him as the top candidate out of five that were interviewed. Nearly 80 applications packets were received during the 10 day application window.

“Seguin ISD is extremely excited to have Coach Bush join the district and we feel that he will be a great asset to our overall athletic program,” said Stetson Roane, Seguin ISD superintendent.

Coach Bush has been a teacher and football coach since 2000. He has coached at various levels including high school, college and professional. Most of his coaching experience has been as an offensive coordinator at TCU, Texas State University, UTSA, and the University of Houston. Most recently he served as an offensive assistant coach with the NFL Buffalo Bills.

“Travis is a football junky, he loves the game. He understands how you build and sustain a successful program. He was raised in a coach’s house. His dad was recently inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor. His football IQ and ability to relate will make it easy for him to fit in with others and get the most out of players. I would hire him in a heartbeat. He would be an asset to any program,” said Anthony Lynn assistant head coach and running backs coach with the Buffalo Bills.

Coach Bush has been associated with many successful programs and is no stranger to hard work and commitment. Prior to joining the Buffalo Bills, Coach Bush spent three years with the University of Houston where the team earned several national recognitions for offense.

Additionally, he worked directly under Coach Larry Coker while at UTSA, starting the football program from scratch while recruiting and coaching successful quarterback Eric Soza. Prior to UTSA, Coach Bush was part of the Texas State Bobcat coaching staff from 2004-2010. Again, his offensive statistics were nationally ranked after several passing and offense records were set during his tenure.

Bradley George, Texas State quarterback from 2005-2009 with 24 school passing records, said, "I can’t count how many coaches I had over roughly 25 years involved in athletics in multiple sports, but Coach Bush is hands down the one that I learned the most from and respect the most. I think I speak for plenty of his former players that it was truly an honor and a blessing to play for him at Texas State. There were many offensive school records broken in my time there but none of them would have occurred if Coach Bush wasn’t the man behind the scenes setting his players up for success. I would still to this day follow him if he asked me to.”

Coach Bush obtained his bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University and his master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas Christian University. He currently maintains his Texas Educator Certifications in Mathematics (grades 6-12) and Physical Education (grades early childhood-12).

Coach Bush is honored for this opportunity and ready to join the Seguin Matadors. He will jump in immediately to start meeting players, staff and parents. With his a master’s degree in Education Administration, he is looking forward to coaching football and providing expertise and guidance to all athletic programs in the district. He is extremely passionate about ensuring the youngest athletes at our middle school levels develop sound fundamental skills and a true love of the games that they play. When offered the position, one of Coach Bush’s first comments was “Let’s get to work."

Coach Bush and his wife Dee have two sons and are looking forward to becoming part of the community.
