Seguin families have a unique opportunity to discover the joys of camping and Texas State Parks.
Seguin ISD’s Pete Silvius, coordinator of P.E. and outdoor education, has teamed with Texas Outdoor Family and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to host camping workshops being held throughout the state.
Silvius says that on Nov. 21-22, Seguin families can camp for a reduced rate of $25 at Pedernales Falls State Park near Johnson City. The fee includes camping gear such as a tent and cots plus a host of fun filled, camping-related activities.
“While families will be camping at their own site, they will have access to restrooms, hot showers, potable water and electricity at each site. This is a great chance for families to learn the basics of camping without having to break the bank on equipment,” he said.
The Texas Outdoor Family program will provide, on loan, lanterns, stoves and fuel, a coffee press, pots, fry pan and utensils in addition to the tent that sleeps six, two cots and four foam pads.
“At Seguin ISD we have expanded outdoor recreational opportunities for our students, especially in the areas of kayaking and biking. We are supportive of TPWD and the Texas Outdoor Family program in this initiative and I hope that many of our families take advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
Interested families may register by calling (512) 389-8903 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. More information is available at
