Seguin ISD has announced that the district will continue its
policy requiring students to carry clear backpacks on all campuses for the 2025-2026 school
year. This decision reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security
of all students and staff.
The Clear Backpack Policy, originally introduced to enhance visibility and deter the presence of
prohibited items on campus, has enhanced the district’s effective safety measures. After careful
consideration and consultation with district leaders and the Seguin Police Department, Seguin
ISD will maintain the policy as part of its broader school safety strategy.
“Our highest priority is the well-being of our students and staff,” said Dr. Veronica Vijil, Seguin
ISD superintendent. “Continuing the use of clear backpacks allows us to promote a safer
environment by supporting our campus safety protocols and emergency preparedness plans.”
The Seguin Police Department has met with district leadership to review current security
practices and has expressed its full support of the Clear Backpack Policy. Its endorsement
reflects the shared commitment between the school district and law enforcement to maintain a
safe learning environment.
“We support Seguin ISD in taking proactive steps to increase visibility and prevent potential
threats,” said Jason Brady, Chief of the Seguin Police Department. “The Clear Backpack Policy
is a simple but effective part of a multi-layered approach to school safety.”
Seguin ISD remains dedicated to ongoing collaboration with families, students, staff, and local
law enforcement to uphold safety measures and foster a secure, supportive educational
experience. Parents and guardians will receive additional guidance and reminders about the
policy as the new school year approaches.
