Seguin ISD’s newest contribution to the city of Seguin is now open to the public.
Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil was joined by Board Secretary Linda Duncan, Trustee Denise Crettenden, and Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen to help formally open the city’s first #SeguinReads StoryWalk®.
The public installation is part of a collaboration between the district’s lead librarian, Jackie Silvius, the Seguin Public Library, the Seguin Education Foundation (SEF), and Seguin High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Silvius wrote the SEF grant that will support three #SeguinReads StoryWalks® in Seguin, including one at the Seguin Public Library. The installation’s 72 book stands were built by CTE students and teacher Jason Rice.
“Jackie’s idea to bring the StoryWalks® program to Seguin will benefit children and families for years,” Dr. Vijil said. “Seguin ISD is proud to have a part in this project, and we are very excited there are two additional StoryWalks® in the works.”
Two more StoryWalks® are planned for installation along the walking trails at Bauer Park and Park West. Pecantown Books is also helping provide the books for the #SeguinReads StoryWalks® program.
The #SeguinReads StoryWalk® is free and open to the public. Featured books will rotate monthly; the first book to be featured is “This Is a School” by John Schu.
