The district is currently building the new facility on E. College Street, behind Seguin High School. Voters approved construction of the complex under the 2023 bond, eliminating the baseball team’s need to play home games at a city-owned field off-campus. The baseball and softball fields will share a common ticket booth, restrooms, and concession stand. Officials hope the community will step forward to submit name suggestions for this facility.
Board Policy CW (LOCAL) states:
The Board believes that naming District facilities is a matter of great importance. In naming a school facility, the Board may consider naming the following:
1. A single-building campus;
2. A portion of a building;
3. A single building on a campus with multiple buildings; or
4. A specific area on a campus.
The responsibility for naming a facility rests with the Board.
Board Policy CW (LOCAL) also outlines the timeline and criteria for stakeholders to submit written nominations. Trustees approved to move forward with the nomination process during the Aug. 27 school board meeting.
Staff, students and the community may submit a nomination by Sept. 30, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. to sisd@seguin.k12.tx.us or via mail or in person at Seguin ISD Central Office, 1221 E. Kingsbury St., Seguin, TX 78155.
Nominations must be in writing and include a succinct description of the nominee’s contributions, why they are important, and any pertinent history that should be considered. No more than three pages of supporting documentation shall be included for each nomination.
Petitions cannot be considered per board policy.
Trustees will consider all nominations that meet the following criteria by the deadline.
The school facility may be named for any person, living or deceased, provided that the name has a special significance or the person has made an outstanding contribution to the school or the district. Trustees will evaluate the person’s contribution in the field of education, extraordinary contributions to the civic life of the community, state, or nation. Also considered are recommendations by an individual, family, or organization that has donated property or funds for the construction of an educational facility in Seguin ISD.
Following the Sept. 30 deadline, trustees will review nominations for consideration and possible approval at a future school board meeting.
