Seguin ISD has a new superintendent. Dr. Veronica Vijil is the new superintendent of Seguin ISD.

Dr. Veronica Vijil was unanimously approved by trustees for the position during a Feb. 15 special school board meeting.

She was named lone finalist on Jan. 23 while serving as interim superintendent. State law requires that school boards observe a 21 day waiting period before a lone finalist can officially enter into an employment contract.

Prior to serving as interim, she was hired as Seguin ISD deputy superintendent in July 2023.

During the school board meeting, Dr. Vijil shared her appreciation and excitement for the new role.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve Seguin ISD. The community has been very warm and gracious during my time as a new Seguin resident. The board of trustees, our educators and administrators truly care about each and every student in this district. Every time we make a decision, it is based on the best interest of our students. There are many great things happening in Seguin ISD and I am thrilled to be a part of the Team of Eight to continue this momentum with a student first approach. I truly welcome and appreciate this opportunity,” she said.

Prior to joining Seguin ISD, she was superintendent at Fabens ISD near El Paso. She earned her doctorate at Sam Houston State University, master’s at Indiana Wesleyan University and a Bachelor of Science degree at The University of Texas-El Paso.

Overall, she has 34 years of experience in public education. This includes 21 years in district leadership roles, four years as a superintendent and 10 years as a principal.
