Telles to lead Matador bands

Marc TellesMarc Telles is the new director of bands at Seguin High School.

 

Telles comes to Seguin ISD from Pflugerville ISD where he served as director of bands and fine arts department chair at Connally High School. He previously taught in Harlingen CISD and Northside ISD.

 

“We are fortunate to have hired someone of Mr. Telles’ experience and caliber to take our Seguin High School music program to the next level, said Jason Adam, Seguin ISD director of fine arts.

 

“Although he officially comes on board this summer, Marc has already started plans to meet with staff. He will be reaching out to students and parents in the coming weeks to introduce himself.”

 

Telles grew up in San Antonio before earning a bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas.

 

He has served as conductor for concert ensembles that have performed in Washington D.C., New York City, the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, and throughout Texas. His concert bands have received over a decade of UIL Sweepstakes awards from three different high schools in the varsity, non-varsity, and sub non-varsity levels. His award winning jazz bands have received numerous superior ratings and “best in class" awards.

 

In 2015, Telles was invited to serve as a guest jazz conductor at the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. Additionally, he has served as an associate director and director for marching bands that have received numerous first-place awards, UIL first division awards, UIL area finals appearances, Bands of America Regional Championship performances as well as the UIL 6A State Marching Contest four times.

 

Telles has presented workshops at music conferences while serving in various leadership capacities for music regions 11, 26 and 28. He was elected member of the TMAA Committee on Standards of Adjudication and Performance Practices. He is a member of the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA) and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster Fraternity.
