Following state competition in Corpus Christi on March 23, four Seguin ISD Destination Imagination (DI) teams have qualified for Global competition in Kansas City on May 22-25.
Laine McCown, August Panozzo, Caleb Pape and Griffin Welfel of Weinert Elementary School advanced following a second place finish in the Fine Arts Challenge and a first place in the Instant Challenge.
The Barnes Middle School team of Brylynn Baker, Carter Dunn, Shelby Just, Madison Kirchner, Ava Sauceda and Rayjen Tovar took third place in the Scientific Challenge, garnering a trip to Kansas City.
In the Service Learning Challenge, the Seguin High School team of John Blair, Gage Compton, Leo de Leon, Serenity de Leon, Gabriella Medrano and Christian Molina took fifth place and earned a spot in Globals.
A first place finish in the Fine Arts Challenge and Instant Challenge for the Seguin High School team of Serenity de Leon, Christian Molina, Victoria Ramirez, Gabriela Rincon, Jaden Tovar and Karla Vazquez has also resulted in a Global competition bid.
Addyson McDowall, Paisley Ortiz, Mya Rivas and Faithlyn Vasquez from Barnes Middle School competed at state in the Engineering Challenge.
Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez attended the state competition and said “I am extremely proud of our Seguin ISD Destination Imagination teams that competed among the best in Texas. Congratulations to the students and families on the four teams that have advanced to Globals. We know that you will do your best in Kansas City.”
Serenity DeLeon received one of three state DI scholarships. She is one of four Seguin High School DI students to receive the award since its inception.
The Texas DI tournament second only to Globals in terms of the largest DI tournaments in the world.
