For the twelfth straight year, Seguin ISD Destination Imagination (DI) teams have qualified for Global competition in Knoxville, TN after excelling in State competition held April 7-8 on Arlington.
Of the five teams at State, four qualified for the Global event scheduled for May 21-27.

The Weinert Elementary School 6 Fighting Matadors team of Cort Conway, Lanie McCown, August Panozzo, Caleb Pape, Griffin Welfel and Whitley Wiatrek took second place honors in the Fine Arts Challenge category. This is the first Seguin ISD third grade team to reach the Global tournament.

Taking fourth place in the Fine Arts Challenge category was the Barnes Middle School sixth grade Live or DI team of Chase Dominguez, Desiree Dominguez, Karissa Holden, Dylan Ranft and Chandler Stephenson.

The Barnes Ride or DI sixth grade team of Bailey Garcia, Addyson McDowall, Makenna Phillips, Kaelyn Rhodes, Mya Rivas and Elizabeth Suarez finished fourth in the Engineering Challenge.

Finishing eighth in the Service Learning Challenge were Barnes sixth graders John Walker Baker, Jo’Lena Fogg, Tilden Nash, Aidan Vargas, Sophia Vela and Rayjen Tovar of the Magic D Eyes team.
“Our Seguin ISD DI teams did a great job at the State competition and I am extremely proud of our four teams that advanced to represent Seguin in the Global competition. A lot of hard work and effort from our students, parents and team managers goes toward DI competition. Congratulations to all of our teams for another fine year,” said Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez, who attended the State competition to support his students.
