08/15/2017

Under the 2017 state accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency on Aug. 14, Seguin ISD schools received the Met Standard rating based upon performance standards.

The ratings also revealed an increase in the number of Distinction Designations, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement in specific areas.

“Seguin ISD attained a combined total of 16 Distinction Designations, an increase of eight over the last school year. Our campus administrators, teachers and students worked hard to achieve this level of success. We are looking forward to continued gains with our academic achievement in 2017-18,” said Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez.

Distinction Designations are awarded to campuses based on achievement on performance indicators compared to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographics. The four performance indicators are Student Achievement (Index 1), Student Progress (Index 2), Closing Performance Gaps (Index 3) and Postsecondary Readiness (Index 4).

Under the state accountability system, Koennecke and McQueeney elementaries each earned five distinctions out of a possible total of six per campus. These distinctions were awarded for student performance in Math and English Language Arts, plus Student Progress, Closing the Performance Gap and Postsecondary Readiness.

Weinert Elementary received three distinctions, including one for student performance in English Language Arts and one for Science. The third distinction is for Postsecondary Readiness.

Jefferson Elementary School students also performed well, receiving a Distinction Designation in English Language Arts and a second in Student Progress.

At the secondary level, Barnes Middle School received a Student Achievement distinction for Social Studies scores.
