11/04/2015
The Seguin High School Matador Battalion Corps of Cadets' recent second place overall finish at the Hill Country Classic Drill Meet at Smithson Valley High School qualified them for the NJROTC Area 10 State Drill Competition at Texas A&M University in February. At Smithson Valley, Seguin High School’s NJROTC Drill, Physical Fitness and Academic Teams combined to take first place in the Unit Personnel Inspection. The Mad Dog Armed Drill Team and the Scorpion Unarmed Drill Team finished in second place overall for drill competition, behind the reigning national champions of Flour Bluff High School. The Physical Fitness Team placed third overall thanks to the 16 member team completing 1,685 sit-ups and 816 push-ups. “The cadets of the Seguin High School NJROTC program continue to excel. Finishing strong at the Hill Country Classic and advancing to the State meet in February is testament to the hard work and dedication of our students. I am proud of their efforts as they represent Seguin,” said Commander John Honer, director of naval science at Seguin High School. The Matadors’ next competition is the President's Own Drill Meet at George Bush High School in Houston on Nov. 6-7.
