Seguin High School was well represented at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference held in Dallas on May 4-8.

Senior Christian Bertling was a National Qualifier representing Seguin and Texas in JAVA Programming while sophomore Kyle Fiebig attended as Texas Merit Scholar. Seguin High School Class of 2020 alumni, Cody Mazzurana, also joined the Seguin group and assisted the Host Committee and participated as a conference judge. Seguin High School Teachers and BPA Advisors Sharon Booth and Diana Weber also attended, assisting as judges and serving on the Host Committee.

The Bertling and Fiebig helped host members from across the nation as they were sworn in as honorary Texans at the Texas Hospitality Booth during the week. They also participated in the open events, leadership sessions, pin trading, caucusing, voting sessions, and enjoyed meeting other BPA members during the conference.

“My favorite part was networking and getting to know people from the different states and meeting up with my friends from the Texas conference. I also really liked Mrs. Weber’s welcome speech. I was proud to tell everyone that I was her student and that she was my BPA mom,” Bertling said.

He took the IT Specialist in JAVA Certiport Certification test at the event. He was offered the opportunity to work with Certiport to further test their accessibility features for their certification tests and provide feedback on ways to improve their accessibility options for sight-impaired test takers.

“We are excited for this opportunity that was offered to Christian on behalf of Certiport and BPA since improving technology and accessibility are two things that he is very passionate about,” Weber said.

Fiebig reflected on the National Leadership Conference and shared, “The NLC was a truly remarkable experience. As a first year BPA member, I didn’t know what to expect, but I quickly learned that NLC is a one-of-a-kind experience. I enjoyed being able to trade pins with members from other states and try new things with the open events. Mrs. Weber put on a great show, and I can’t wait for NLC 2023.”

He represented Texas as a Texas Merit Scholar winner and took the National Merit Scholar test. He is preparing for the Ambassador Torch award next year and working with the Texas Intern program.

Seguin joined more than 5,100 members for the first in person National Conference since 2019. Weber, as Texas State Advisor, delivered the conference welcome during the opening session and served on the Host Committee.
