The Seguin ISD invites the community to participate in the newly launched Adopt-a-School / Adopt-the-District program.
According to Dr. Matthew Gutierrez, Seguin ISD superintendent, this new program is sure to create opportunities for the community to make an impact on the quality of life in Seguin.
“A school district can only be as successful as the community is supportive. Likewise, a community can only flourish if its school district is successful. Without the tangible presence of businesses and volunteers in our schools, it is more difficult for students and teachers to meet high expectations. Stakeholder support and appreciation go a long way toward success,” he said.
There are several options for businesses, organizations and community groups to support Seguin ISD students and staff, including:
• Sponsor or cater breakfast for the monthly principals meeting.
• Rent a nominally priced vendor table at the district’s convocation.
• Provide gift cards or goodies for teachers and students on one or more campuses for a particular event or “just because.”
• Donate equipment or school supplies to a campus, high school booster club, or to the Seguin Parent Teacher Council.
• Volunteer to mentor or read to students.
• Offer internships and participate in career fairs.
• Purchase an ad on the Matador Stadium video scoreboard.
• Serve on the board or a committee of the Seguin Education Foundation and support SEF fundraisers including Mardi Gras on Feb. 22 and the Race for Education 5K on April 2.
Anyone interested in adopting their neighborhood school or in supporting several schools through the district may contact Kelly Follis, Seguin ISD director of community outreach, at 830-379-0325 or kfollis@seguin.k12.tx.us.
