After months of meeting, poring over maps and evaluating enrollment numbers, the Seguin ISD rezoning committee has two revised elementary attendance zone maps for community input.

The draft maps will be on display Feb. 26 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. at Seguin ISD District Office located at 1221 E. Kingsbury St.

Parents, guardians and students are encouraged take a look at the maps and provide comment.

Relatively static enrollment numbers have allowed Seguin ISD to keep current attendance boundaries in place for approximately nine years. With impending growth, plus full classrooms at certain elementary schools, the time has come to redraw boundaries to better equalize elementary campus enrollment numbers, said Bill Lewis, Seguin ISD chief operating officer and associate superintendent of technology.

“Fast growing districts shift attendance zone boundaries every four to five years. We have been able to accommodate students with our current boundaries for much longer than that. However, now is the time to incorporate and publicize any changes so that our families know where their children will be going to school in the fall,” he said.

Lewis notes that the Rezoning Committee has done a great job evaluating the attendance zones.

“From the onset, we wanted the committee, which is made of up parents and teachers who reside in the district, to make recommendations based upon current and forecast data. The two draft maps that will be on display Feb. 26 reflect their hard work and dedication,” he said.

Following the community input phase, a demographer hired by the district will take the suggestions and attempt to incorporate them into a single map. Ultimately, the Seguin ISD board of trustees will have to consider and approve any changes during an open school board meeting.
