Florida Tragedy
02/16/2018

Dear Seguin ISD family,

I am deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday.

As a public school administrator responsible for the safety of nearly 7,500 students, the senseless loss of innocent lives truly touches my heart.

Prior to the holidays, our students and staff at Seguin ISD were trained in the ALICE safety protocol. At our campuses we will continue to perform monthly ALICE safety drills to ingrain these best practices into our day to day operations.

Our students and teachers serve as our best first line of defense as the eyes and ears of our schools. You can help keep our schools and community safe by remaining vigilant and reporting any unusual or potentially threatening comments or situations to a teacher, school administrator or law enforcement officer.

Seguin ISD enjoys great partnerships with the Seguin Police Department and the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office. We will continue to work closely with these law enforcement entities to maintain the safe learning environments in Seguin schools.

I ask that you keep the friends and families of the Parkland, Florida students in your thoughts and prayers and thank you for your role in the safety of our students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Matthew Gutierrez

Seguin ISD Superintendent
