Matador Family,

It will be a year since I was named the lone finalist for Seguin ISD. As I reflect on this swift year, we have so many reasons to celebrate. Within this time, we have accomplished many great things, and we are on our way towards becoming a destination district for South Texas. If it weren’t for our supportive SISD community, these goals would not have come to fruition.

You have embraced our district’s initiatives, adopted new ideas, and turned them into reality. In addition, you have welcomed our district’s use of social media to connect, learn, share and collaborate in a connected world. You have come together to collectively shape our strategic plan and cultivate the conditions necessary for student learning. In just a year, you have taken steps to implement Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and plan for innovative programming for the 2018-19 school year. I am proud to say that Koennecke Elementary will be the first Two-Way Dual Language campus, providing an enrichment program for English Learners. Jefferson Elementary and McQueeney Elementary will be partnering with Texas Christian University to implement LiiNK (Let’s Inspire Innovation ‘N Kids) and provide students with opportunities to develop the whole child. Vogel Elementary will be the first to implement AVID at the elementary level, and Weinert Elementary will expand its fine arts programming with the addition of visual arts.

At the secondary level we had the first graduating class of Early College High School students with over 30 students earning an Associate Degree from St. Philip’s College along with their high school diploma. CTE launched a new website and “rebranding” of program opportunities including a very successful Career Day with involvement from the City and students earned certifications in multiple areas. We had many reasons to celebrate accomplishments in our fine arts, athletics and cheer programs as well. We will begin a focus on developing Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships in all classrooms to ensure high levels of learning for all students.

I cannot find an appropriate word other than magical… This year has truly been magical because of you!

As Barbara Bush shared, “At the end of your life you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent.” Please take time this summer to relax and enjoy your loved ones.

Thank you for being my work family.
