Pre-K 4 Bilingual Teacher
Ball Early Childhood Center
1. Describe you teaching career at Seguin ISD.
I've been working for Seguin ISD for 4 years and am a proud alumni of the entire Seguin ISD school system. It's a joy to be able to give back to this community and to the district that saw me grow up. I've always had a heart and a passion for teaching bilingual children and this year I began teaching in my very own bilingual classroom at Ball ECC! I love coming into my class every day to inspire my students. To see a child grow, succeed and celebrate small victories throughout the year is priceless and drives me to teach every day!
2. How do you instill rigor and relevance in your classroom?
I want my students to walk out of my classroom door feeling confident in the skills and knowledge they acquired that day. For that reason, I hold every one of my students to a high learning standard. I strive to provide quality and enriching learning experiences that are not only relevant but culturally appropriate for them. Many times I'll decode words for them into their native language, read books that will prompt challenging questions and push them to ask, ask, ask! Of course, all while having fun along the way!
3. As an educator, you cultivate, inspire and empower. What does this mean to you?
To cultivate, inspire and empower students is such a great honor! Every day I get to mold the minds of my students and inspire them to dream bigger! I want to equip my students with the skills and knowledge that they can use not only in the classroom, but in the real world as well. I also want them to be proud of their culture and their bilingualism too! Porque el que sabe dos idiomas vale por dos! I open their imaginations to a world outside our four walls and encourage them to not only be better students, but to be better people too. I have a great responsibility in that I'm shaping the leaders of tomorrow and I'm lucky I get to do this every day!
