• The Seguin High School Varsity choirs competed at the UIL Choir Concert and Sightreading Contest on April 17-18 in San Antonio. The Varsity Mixed Choir earned a First Division in Concert and scores of 1, 2 and 2 in Sightreading for an overall Second Division rating. Leonardo Garcia serves as choir director.

  • The Seguin High School FFA Vet Science team qualified for state following a seventh place finish out of 60 competitors. Cassidy Doege, far right, earned fourth place out of 222 individual competitors. State competition will be held in College Station on April 28.

  • Patlan Elementary School students in J.T. Martin's class recently spent a beautiful day at the Irma Lewis Seguin Outdoor Learning Center.

  • "Seguin Student Council has won the election for State Secretary for the Texas Association of Student Councils. We will be one of four schools representing the state and one of the largest StuCo leadership organizations in the United States. Mr. Vera and I are so proud of these kids. They worked hard on our platform, Mental Disorders are not Adjectives, they campaigned, and they proved they really wanted this position.   • The Seguin High School Percussion Ensemble Performed at the 2018 Music For All National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis. The ensemble was one of only 10 groups selected from throughout the United States. The ensemble is under the direction of Craig Turner.

  • Team Flavyrs of Barnes Middle School is comprised of Skylar Germany, Noah Rodriguez and A.J. Rodriguez. The trio competed at the Texas Computer Education Association state robotics competition in Hutto on April 7. The Flavyrs' robot, designed to deliver important papers from the school office directly to the classroom, placed 27 in the state of Texas.

  • The Seguin High School Navy JROTC annual military inspection took place on April 13. The event included the National Anthem, personnel inspection, platoon basic marching demonstration, personal appearance awards, drill teams performances and a pass-in review. Commander Bryan Robertson oversees the JROTC program.

  • Seguin High School senior Shyann Atchley signed a letter of intent to play softball at Kerrville's Schreiner University on April 11. Her family, coaches, friends and teammates were on hand at the event to show their support. Shyann has played varsity all four years at Seguin High School and currently plays second base for the Lady Matadors.

  • Evelyn Alvarado, an eighth grader at Barnes Middle School, recently presented an art book entitled, Art: A Children’s Encyclopedia, to Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez in memory of Barnes art teacher, Mrs. Chio. The book will be housed in the Barnes library for all students to enjoy. Mrs. Chio was very instrumental in encouraging Evelyn to enter the Lions Club Peace Poster contest this year where she won first place locally and then advanced to district where she won third place. The power of a teacher is invaluable!
